Honda is a world leader in making transportation greener, safer, and more autonomous, and that’s reflected in just about all of their technology initiatives, from their push for hydrogen to their dedication to making hybrids accessible.
Honda Fuel Cell
Honda’s goal is to eradicate the need for fossil fuels altogether, and the most efficient way to do this, according to Honda, is to move toward FCVs, or fuel cell vehicles—vehicles that use hydrogen, which is turned into electricity to power the vehicle. This has all the benefits of electric and hybrid cars without the drawbacks of recharging, and the best part: its only byproduct is water. And hydrogen has the potential to run a fuel-cell engine with greater efficiency over an internal combustion engine. The same amount of hydrogen will take a fuel-cell car at least twice as far as a car running on gasoline.
Honda SENSING Technology
Honda is also focused on creating a “collision-free society,” starting with its Honda SENSING technology. This collection of active safety features includes Lane Keep Assist, which works proactively at speeds over 45 MPH to keep the vehicle centered inside a detected lane by providing steering torque as long as there is no turn signal activated. A camera located between the windshield and the rearview mirror can detect lane separation markings, and senses when the vehicle is veering towards them. Blind Spot Alert uses radar sensors to detect the presence of vehicles to the side and behind, and warns if vehicles are detected. Many fatal crashes happen when drivers drift into another lane, and Honda SENSING and similar features can eliminate these accidents.
Honda Hydrogen Engine
Honda is a proponent of hybrid engines and has developed three unique sport hybrid engines for maximum power and fuel economy. Honda has even used principles of hybrid technology like regenerative braking in its non-hybrid cars, making its Turbo engine more efficient than ever by reusing exhaust gas.
