2017 HondaAccord vs. 2017 ChevroletMalibu | Mishawaka, IN
The Honda Accord has been a mainstay in the American market for some time, established as a reliable family sedan. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Malibu recently got a revamp that introduced it to the market as a more slick, advanced competitor with an almost luxurious vibe. Which one gives you more bang for your buck?
Between the Honda Accord and the Chevrolet Malibu, engine specs are your first clue to which one gets better performance. The Accord’s standard 2.4-liter i-VTEC ® I-4 gets up to 185 standard horsepower, while the Chevy Malibu’s entry-level 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder only gets 150 hp.
While the Accord’s standard transmission puts it at a fuel economy disadvantage, if you equip the Honda Accord with its available CVT, both competitors get comparable highway mileage of up to 36 mpg.*
The Chevrolet Malibu comes with safety features such as stability control with brake assist and rear seat reminder, but if you want smart safety systems like Teen Driver or a rearview camera, you’ll have to upgrade.
Meanwhile, the Honda Accord comes standard with a Multi-Angle rearview camera, as well as Brake Assist, Traction Control, Stability Control, and Hill Start Assist.
Interior Comforts & Features
Take a look at the Accord’s long list of features. It includes automatic climate control, power outlets, an audio system, Bluetooth® compatibility with the HandsFreeLink system, USB ports, and the ability to stream Pandora® radio. The Chevy Malibu offers several of those features only if you upgrade; the base-level trim only comes with your typical AM/FM radio and manual air conditioning.
The Honda Accord and Chevrolet Malibu might be in the same segment, but the Chevy Malibu doesn’t offer nearly as much as the Accord. The Malibu requires you to spend more money to upgrade to the same features that the 2017 Honda Accord offers standard.
